My Journey
I am a learning experience designer with degrees in biology and secondary education and a background in scenario-based education. My passion for developing constructive learning solutions began as an educator. I was blessed with an incredible group of colleagues that introduced me to mastery-based learning. Through collaboration and teamwork, I built a learner-centered mastery-based curriculum that was implemented across other platforms in my school’s community. In my course I built instruction that differentiated an individual’s prior knowledge. I tracked all progress through the learning management system.
Now I'm a Technical Trainer working to not only develop frontline workers, but also support the leaders growing their teams as well. In my quest for my own personal growth, I've started a certificate through Kennesaw State University's online program for Software Engineering, and I am looking to continue additional education in Data Analytics. I see how much technology has transformed businesses, and I know more teams will need support in this changing landscape. With this education I plan to bring new skills into learning and development to enable leaders and support their goals while ensuring a positive ROI.
When the pandemic hit, there wasn’t much pivoting I had to do because all of my content was already mapped out on our learning management system. At that point I was mostly adjusting to a remote world, which further fueled my desire to ask questions and learn more about the tools available for creating and delivering instruction. Five years into my career I knew I was ready to learn more and grow professionally as an instructional designer in learning and development.
I was also trained in project-based engineering coursework, which heavily emphasized the design process similar to the ADDIE model. Every day I got to guide learners through solving problems applying iterative design and scenario-based instruction.
